Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 (Precise Pangolin) has been released. There are not many visible changes in this release. However, lots of packages have been updated to their latest versions. Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 Uses the 3.2.0-2.5 Ubuntu kernel which is based on the recent 3.2-rc3 Linux kernel, Banshee has been removed as the default media player and replaced by Rhythmbox and Updated default applications (Firefox 9 BETA, Thunderbird 9 BETA, Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.2, Gedit 3.2.3, Gwibber 3.3.1, Onboard 0.96 etc)
A pangolin, also scaly anteater or Trenggiling, is a mammal of the order Pholidota. There is only one extant family (Manidae) and one genus (Manis) of pangolins, comprising eight species. There are also a number of extinct taxa. Pangolins have large keratin scales covering their skin and are the only mammals with this adaptation.They are found in tropical regions of Africa and Asia.

- Vala rewritten Zeitgeist 0.9 alpha 1 has replaced the “old” Zeitgeist
- Banshee, Tomboy and Gbrainy have been removed, meaning no Mono in the default Ubuntu install
- Nautilus has received tags that can be applied to any file or folder
- Ubuntu Software Center supports multiple screenshots in the applications’ details view, as well as the Ability to filter comments by “Most helpful first” and “Newer firsts”
